Man found with unlicensed firearm and ammunition caught by EMPD

The officers found live rounds of ammunition and ammunition magazines stashed in the garage where the suspect slept.

Members of EMPD in Thembisa, Ivory Park Crime Intelligence office and Ekurhuleni Public Order Policing Unit responded to a tip-off that a 48-year-year-old suspect, residing in Umthambeka section, Thembisa, was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm, on January 11.

Officers arrived at the suspect’s residence and searched the property.

The officers found live rounds of ammunition and ammunition magazines stashed in the garage where the suspect slept.

The suspect was placed under arrest and taken to the Tembisa South Police Station for detention.

Items that were seized from the suspect include 178 rounds of live ammunition, 31 R5 rounds, one rifle magazine and one pistol magazine.

Further investigations will determine if the suspect is linked to other cases.
