Residents of Klopperpark and Elandsfontein call for a satellite police station
A satellite police station will definitely assist the community in opening cases and reporting crimes, as well as getting documents certified.

The communities of Klopperpark and Elandsfontein have started a petition, which will be submitted to parliament requesting a satellite police station between their areas.
The document will be submitted to the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele.
Both Elandsfontein and Klopperpark are faced with unprecedented crime and are reliant on Bedfordview SAPS, a station that is approximately nine kilometres away from the two areas.
According to Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerreiro, the Bedfordview SAPS has limited resources such as vehicles for patrols.

“The community are often left waiting hours before getting help or assistance from local authorities.
“With an ever-growing population within Ward 92 and in particular Klopperpark, Elandsfontein area, we as the community wish to have a closer SAPS satellite station to fight crime and improve authorities response time,” said Guerreiro.
The petition is still available to be signed either online or manually.
Once it is done the DA member of parliament Michele Clarke will submit it.
Bedfordview CPF chairperson Janine Dalgleish said the CPF welcomes this petition as they support any legal efforts to combat crime.
“There have been numerous concentrated efforts from both SAPS and the CPF to reduce crime in Sector 3 (Elandsfontein, Klopperpark, Meadowdale, Meadowbrook and Tunney) and we have executed several high-density operations focused on Elandsfontein and Klopperpark over the last year,” said Dalgleish.
“Most of the crimes reported in the two areas are illegal connections and crimes related to infrastructure, assault and domestic violence, theft of gate motors and armed robbery.

“The CPF patrols both areas daily, with patrollers in Elandsfontein doing patrols on foot. Most of our patrols take place at night between 20:00 and 02:00.
“This partnership has made a big difference, seen in the number of cases reported to both the SAPS and the CPF. Response times to incidents have greatly improved.
“Our high-density operations have also led to arrests, confiscations and an overall crime reduction.
“There is still a lot of work to be done and a lot we still need to achieve to crub crime, but we do believe our efforts over the past year are bearing fruits and we will continue the fight with the help of SaferCity, the security companies and the commitment from our station commander,” said Dalgleish.
“Unemployment does play a big part in crime in general, but in our area, we’ve noticed that the major drivers of crime are alcohol and drug abuse as well as occupants in illegal backyard dwellings.

“The biggest problem for our residents in terms of reporting crime has been the distance between Sector 3 and the Bedfordview Police Station. So often crimes are not being reported as victims do not have means of transportation.
“A satellite police station will assist the community in opening cases and reporting crimes, as well as getting documents certified. This will also greatly impact SAPS response time,” said Dalgleish.
