SAPS arrest 70 suspects, recover 28 vehicles and eight firearms

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Between March 1 and March 7, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 70 suspects, recovering 28 motor vehicles and eight firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 28 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, fraud, robbery, possession of car-breaking implements, attempted murder, murder, warrant of arrest, domestic violence, rape, pointing of a firearm and possession of suspected stolen property.

A total of 28 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with seven arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Eight unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying seven arrests.

In further policing, 28 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
