President and deputy for BlindSA appointed

Throughout his career, De Klerk has been involved in Braille-related activities, managing Braille production, providing instruction and training, and promoting the language.

Blind SA announced the appointment of a new president and deputy president in the wake of Ntshavheni Netshituni’s resignation as president.

Christoffel de Klerk, who previously served as the entity’s deputy president, has been appointed as the new president, succeeding Netshituni.

Othusitse Gama was introduced as the new deputy president of the organisation.

De Klerk graduated from Worcester’s School for the Blind in 1967 and later obtained a BA in law and an LLB from the University of Stellenbosch in 1970 and 1972, respectively.

He practiced privately as an advocate at the Cape Town Bar from 1973 to 1979.

Throughout his career, De Klerk has been involved in Braille-related activities, managing Braille production, providing instruction and training, and promoting the language.

He has received accolades for his contributions, including the South African Disability Alliance Lifetime Achievement Award in March.

Gama hails from the North West.

He matriculated from Bartimea School of the Blind and Deaf in the Free State and pursued further studies in education at the University of the Free State.

Gama also had the opportunity to study visual impairments and disabilities at Perkins International School for the Blind in the USA from 2013 to 2014.
