Voice of the voter: locals fed up with lack of services

With this pivotal moment on the horizon, residents are urged to reflect on the pressing issues that affect their daily lives before heading to the polls.

Germiston City News is extending an invitation to all residents to speak up about their service delivery concerns.

Janet Gerretsen, Primrose resident, said the community is fed up with the lack of service delivery from the City of Ekurhuleni.

“Residents sit for days without power, with no feedback from the city,” said Gerretsen.

Potholes and overgrown weeds on pavements.

“My power was off from March 21 to 30. I exhausted all my tricks to find help. Other residents are going on for 10 days without power due to cable theft and other problems.

“Why is it these managers are not held accountable for the lack of service delivery?

“Our street lights don’t work, residents are continually reporting but have just given up because nothing gets done. The streets are pitch dark at night enticing wall jumpers and cable thieves.

“Our streets are full of potholes, and residents are told not to fix them but companies and associations asking for permission to sort them out are kept waiting.

“What are residents actually paying for? We don’t get what we pay for, so why should we? Residents are bearing the brunt of this council’s inability to run our municipality,” said Gerretsen.
