The development of township economy is a national priority which is aimed at driving inclusive economic development in previously disadvantaged areas.

With unemployment rates soaring in South Africa, the quest for entrepreneurial opportunities remains high, albeit often hindered by financial constraints.

In a bid to bolster the township economy and support local businesses, the City of Ekurhuleni has earmarked R9m to assist tuckshop owners, spaza shops, as well as fruit and vegetable traders across the region.

“This initiative aligns with our national priority of developing the township economy, and driving inclusive economic growth in historically disadvantaged areas,” said MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, Nomadlozi Nkosi.
