Locals warned of scammers luring people with jobs

They promise you a job as a cleaner either at the airport or hospital to clean offices.

The Bedfordview Edenvale News warns residents of a scam making rounds offering people employment.

According to some of our readers, this syndicate calls job seekers who advertise on classifieds to provide employment.

It is alleged to be a white woman working with black male counterparts.

They promise you a job as a cleaner either at the airport or hospital to clean offices.

“She told me that she urgently needs people to clean at the airport and that I must have an access card. They wanted R300 for the card.

“They provide you with an address to meet under the pretence of issuing the card,” explained the reader.

When you get to the address that’s when they take your money and your cellphone.

She said in the past month they called her three times using a different number each time (a SIM card number).

If it is not money for the access card they apparently tell their victims to deposit R500 at Shoprite for the cleaners’ uniform and send proof of payment afterwards.
