Man caught with unlicensed firearm in Primrose

A man was arrested in Primrose on December 7, after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and 15 rounds of live ammunition.
The arrest was made by members of the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team as part of Operation Shanela, a multi-agency initiative aimed at reducing crime across the Ekurhuleni district.
The operation, conducted by SAPS, EMPD, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, CPFs, Home Affairs, and other law enforcement agencies, ran from December 6 to 8.

According to Ekurhuleni district communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the operation led to the arrest of 181 suspects.

Of these, 113 were linked to contact crimes, 15 to contact-related crimes, 10 to property crimes, 30 to other serious crimes, and 28 to GBV-related offences.
In addition to the arrests, 10 illegal shebeens were shut down as part of the Safer Festive Season initiative.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole praised the law enforcement team for their collaborative efforts in tackling crime.
“These operations demonstrate our commitment to ensuring a safer Ekurhuleni district,” said Sithole.
