Elsburg Wrestling Club plans for bumper year ahead

The club has already started the year with intense training and is planning on growing.

Elsburg Wrestling Club is turning 70 and the club plans to make 2025 a great year.

The club has already started the year with intense training and is planning on growing.

“We are excited about the club turning 70 and we hope that can also be a booster for the club’s credibility,” said chairman Edward Brewis.

He said the plans for the club in 2025 are to form a bond with other sporting codes.

“As we start the year, we are going to be focusing on growing a strong bond with other sporting codes in order to support one another and sharing ideas of keeping the clubs open and attracting the younger generation to join,” said Brewis.

The clubs has hit the ground running as they already had their first combined training with Elsbug Rugby Club on Janaury 9.

“We had a successful training session and we are going to have a few more. The clubs enjoyed the training,” said Brewis.

Brewis said for the next three months the clubs will be having hectic schedules with recruiting.

“We are looking for members to joins both clubs – wrestling and rugby – and we would love to see the young generations come through, and have the legends share their knowledge of the game with the younger generation,” said Brewis.

He said the clubs are also looking for sponsors. “We need financial support to keep out doors open.

“We need uniforms, transport and other resources. Some of our younger players come from disadvantage backgrounds and need the support,” said Brewis.

The club is also asking for donations and sponsorship for their 70th birthday celebration.
For those who are interested, club training is on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm and 8pm.
