Mayor wraps up school visits
CoE executive mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza wraps up school visits by visiting two schools in Thembisa.

City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) executive mayor, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, embarked on a school visit tour, making a stop in his hometown of Thembisa on January 24.
As part of his initiative, he visited Masiqhakaze Secondary School and Thato Ke Matla School of Specialisation (TKM), encouraging learners as they begin the academic year.
The event featured motivational speakers from LoveLife and other organisations, who delivered powerful messages aimed at inspiring students to focus on their studies and make the most of their educational journey.

TKM School executive, Vusi Malinga, extended a warm welcome to the mayor and expressed gratitude for his visit.
“Though our matric results have not been as strong as we would like, his presence here shows they have not forgotten us. We believe this visit will inspire our new matric class to strive for better results,” said Malinga.
Addressing the learners, Xhakaza emphasised the importance of early preparation for exams, drawing from his own experiences as he pursued his master’s degree this year.
“We encourage learners to prepare from an early grade to ensure they are ready for matric.
“If schools in Thembisa have produced mayors, doctors, and a premier, one of you sitting here today could also become a great leader.
“Success starts in the classroom and requires discipline, focus, and avoiding harmful substances that could derail your future,” he said.
Xhakaza also highlighted a major challenge in Ekurhuleni; the high number of young people in their 20s who are not pursuing further education.
“With a population of over 4.2 million, we face a challenge where 23.5% of young adults only have secondary education but have not progressed further.

“Additionally, 35% of people with a matric qualification are not using it to advance their studies, and only 14% have obtained a post-matric certificate.
“We are working on implementing bursary programmes to help bridge this gap and support further education,” he added.
The mayor’s visit was filled with moments of motivation, entertainment, and engagement, with the city providing entertainment to keep the learners’ spirits high.
Ward Clr Sizakele Masuku welcomed the mayor to the podium, while Xhakaza continued his tradition of giving back by planting seeds in the school’s garden.
