Manager of the City of Ekurhuleni called to step down
The league has given the city a 31-day ultimatum to respond, warning that failure to act will result in more radical and potentially disruptive actions.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s manager, Imogen Mashazi, has been accused of neglecting the needs of young people and enabling corruption.
The ANC Youth League submitted demands against Mashazi to the city, arguing that her leadership has failed to prioritise youth inclusion in governance and economic participation.
Mashazi, who has led the city since 2016 and is set to retire in July, faces growing pressure from the youth league, which staged a protest outside the Germiston municipal offices last Wednesday, calling for her immediate removal.

A key complaint is that the city has failed to fulfil its promise of allocating 40% of opportunities to young people, a situation the youth league calls “unacceptable.”
Khulekani Masina, spokesperson for the league, emphasised the need for a more dynamic leader who understands the urgency of youth issues.
The youth league outlined several key demands:
• Immediate advertising of youth directorate positions.
• Allocation of a separate budget specifically for youth programmes.
• Improvement of customer care management.
• Increased transparency in awarding municipal contracts.
• Establishment of a university in Ekurhuleni.
• An end to awarding contracts to companies linked to officials.
