Police warn residents of online fraud

"If something seems too good to be true, it probably is."

The Primrose SAPS has called on residents to remain vigilant when using online purchasing and payment methods.

Residents are warned not to purchase any unverified items through social media, as fraudsters are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

Since December, several cases have been registered at the SAPS station.

Primrose SAPS station commander Colonel Eunice Nzuza has noticed a trend where community members are being asked by scammers to pay sums of money in exchange for receiving a larger amount.

“Residents must stop making payments before they see the items they want to buy. Fraudsters are getting smarter with these social media posts to lure victims,” said Nzuza.

“This warning comes after numerous fraudulent activities were reported to the police station. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. The greatest lie ever told is the one closest to the truth,” added Nzuza.
