Resource misuse during illegal strike by EMPD investigated
EMPD officials who failed to report for duty and other participants of the illegal strike that took place across Ekurhuleni, without adhering to the required procedures as per Section 205 of the city's regulations, will face consequences for their actions.
The City of Ekurhuleni has expressed grave concern over the ongoing illegal strike action involving members of the EMPD.
The strike, which was not approved under the city’s Section 205 regulations, has caused severe disruptions across key arterial routes, affecting thousands of road users.
The spokesperson for City of Ekurhuleni, Zweli Dlamini, said that EMPD officials who participated in the strike, failing to report for duty, will face disciplinary action.
“The city has opened an investigation to know about the strike as the protesters did not file any formal documentation with us as the city. Everyone who has participated and abused the city’s resources will face the music,” Zweli said.

Motorists have been urged to find alternative routes and remain patient as the city works with relevant stakeholders and law enforcement to resolve the issue.
Additionally, the strike has led to a lack of traffic officers at critical junctions, notably on Alberton’s Swartkoppies Road, where dysfunctional traffic lights have left residents struggling with increased congestion. Many have voiced concerns over the inconvenience this has caused in their daily commute.
The city strongly condemns this unlawful protest, which not only compromises public safety but disrupts daily life.
