World TB Day is observed annually to raise public awareness about the TB epidemic and the ongoing efforts to eliminate the disease.

Bertha Gxowa Hospital hosted an awareness event for World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, at the hospital, on March 27.
World TB Day is celebrated each year on March 24. It’s an occasion to raise awareness and advocate for efforts to eliminate TB.

The hospital provided a wide range of preventive and diagnostic services to address various health concerns.

These services included:

• TB and diabetes screening: These screenings aim to identify potential cases of tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes at an early stage.

Early detection enables prompt treatment, reducing complications and enhancing patient outcomes.

• Prostate cancer screening: This screening initiative focuses on men at risk of prostate cancer. Early detection leads to a broader range of treatment options and a higher likelihood of successful intervention.

• Circumcision services

• Blood pressure checks: Regular monitoring of blood pressure is essential for maintaining cardiovascular health.

This service aids in the early identification of potential hypertension (high blood pressure) and facilitates timely management.

Bonisiwe Hlongwane, the HIV and AIDS, STI and TB (HAST) manager at Bertha Gxowa Hospital, highlighted the significance of World TB Day, observed annually to raise public awareness about the TB epidemic and the ongoing efforts to eliminate the disease.
