Simmer Rugby Club’s teams came out firing this past weekend, securing a triple victory over the Scorpions across the U21, first and second teams. It was a weekend of dominance, skill, and unity as Simmer put on a rugby masterclass, asserting themselves as early frontrunners in the season.

The team maintained that momentum throughout the game, with Johandre Carlse, Dylan Botha, Solomon Jr Thusi, and Divine Mogore each crossing the try line.

Their clinical attacking style was matched by a watertight defence that refused to give the Scorpions any scoreboard access. Coaches Henry Bannau and Trevor Claassen were full of praise for their squad.

Shaun de Wet was named the first team man of the match.

“The boys kept the pressure on the Scorpions and led us to a 34-0 victory.

“We are super proud of them. Now we go back to the drawing board and prepare for our next challenge. The season has started well, and the U21s are growing with every game,” said the coaaches.

First team

The Simmer first team followed suit with a commanding 59-10 win over the Scorpions.

After a slow start, the team shifted gears in the second half, producing a flurry of tries and sealing a dominant win.

Captain Shaun de Wet led from the front, earning man of the match honours for his aggressive ball carries and solid defence.

His leadership on the field was pivotal to turning the tide in Simmer’s favour.

Fly-half Ruan Botha dazzled with two tries and seven conversions, while right wing Neo Tshipe and left lock Tanzi Mahwai each added two tries, combining speed, power, and vision.

Additional tries from Siphmandla Ndaba, Dylan Korf, and Gerson Helder completed the rout.

The first team’s sharp attacking edge and defensive organisation reflect a team brimming with confidence and cohesion, setting the tone for a promising season.

Second team

Not to be outdone, the Simmer second team shut out the Scorpions with a dominant 35-0 performance.

Led by Captain Dipono Malatji, the side showcased flair, structure, and unity. Returning from injury, Marius Stallenberg was instrumental, scoring two tries and slotting four conversions.

His field awareness and calm under pressure gave Simmer control throughout the match.

Wayne Maubane earned man of the match honours after a blistering display, also contributing two tries and several critical defensive plays.

Lesedi Soaisa added a try, while Boitumelo Mphungoa converted another to cap off a complete team performance.

Captain Malatji applauded his team’s focus and effort. “We worked hard all week, and the boys delivered. Everyone stuck to the plan, and the result speaks for itself.”
