Parts of Alberton, Vosloorus, Katlehong to be without water for 5 days
Residents are advised to store water as a 107-hour outage begins tomorrow. Some areas may take up to two weeks to fully recover.
The City of Ekurhuleni has reminded residents to prepare for a planned water supply interruption due to Rand Water’s maintenance on its bulk water infrastructure, which will begin tomorrow.
City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini confirmed that the work will involve the tie-in of the B16 pipeline from Zuikerbosch, Station 5, which will impact the Mapleton System. The maintenance is scheduled to start at 03:00 on May 29 and is expected to continue until 17:00 on June 2, lasting a total of 107 hours.
Dlamini said the maintenance will affect water supply to various parts of the city, including Thembisa, Alberton, Benoni, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Springs, Brakpan, Kwa-Thema, Tsakani, Duduza, Nigel, Vosloorus, Boksburg, Germiston, and Katlehong.
Affected areas under the Mapleton System expected to experience outages include Vosloorus, Dawn Park, Windmill Park, Villa Liza, Mapleton AH, Katlehong South, Vosloorus Extension 20, Phumula, Rondebult, Rondebult Extension 1 and 2, and Buhle Park.
“We are deploying water tankers to the affected areas throughout the five-day project. Customers are also urged to store sufficient water in advance,” said Dlamini.
Dlamini further cautioned that water pressure and supply may take up to two weeks to return to normal in high-lying areas such as Tsakani, Daveyton, and Etwatwa after the maintenance has been completed.
The City will provide updates on water tanker schedules and locations through local ward councillors and its digital communication platforms.
