Ekurhuleni mourns employee killed in fire linked to unsafe heating device use
The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed the death of an official from third-degree burns after a workplace fire, urging residents to use heating devices safely during winter to prevent similar tragedies.
The CoE has confirmed the death of one of its officials after a fire last week.
According to preliminary investigations, the blaze is thought to have been caused by the unsafe use of heating devices.
Medical reports indicate that the official died as a result of third-degree burns.
In a statement, the city extended its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

“We send our condolences to the loved ones of our colleague during this difficult time,” the statement read.
With winter temperatures persisting, the city has urged residents to take extra precautions when using heating devices, like electric and gas heaters, to avoid similar tragedies.
Residents should keep flammable materials at a safe distance from heaters, ensure proper ventilation when using gas appliances, and never leave heating devices unattended.
