Royal Junior Stars win Women’s Day Top 4 Tournament in Katlehong
Mmatibello Mthimunye’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory over Dreamvilla FC in the final at Somhlolo Soccer Ground.
As part of the Women’s Day celebration, Katlehong Local Football Association (KLFA), in partnership with Musa Dladla Games, hosted a captivating and thrilling Women’s Day Top 4 Tournament at Somhlolo Soccer Ground in Katlehong on August 9.
In the first semi-final match of the tournament, Royal Junior Stars FC thrashed Siluma United FC 12-0. In another semi-final match, Dreamvilla FC defeated Phatha Phatha FC 3-0.
The final match between Royal Junior Stars FC and Dreamvilla FC was nothing less than an intriguing encounter, with Royal Junior Stars FC conquering Dreamvilla FC 1-0 and claiming the tournament title.

The exhilarating encounter lived up to its expectations. Both teams had a tough battle in the middle of the park, but later on, Royal Junior Stars FC managed to penetrate the tough defence of Dreamvilla FC through good interchanges of passes, and Mmatibello Mthimunye scored the only goal of the match in the first half.
Royal Junior Stars FC led the match 1-0, with Dreamvilla FC trailing behind. As the match progressed, both teams continued to have an intense battle in the middle of the pitch.
The leading team, Royal Junior Stars FC, failed to extend their lead when the striker unleashed a shot in the penalty box, but it was saved by the goalkeeper of Dreamvilla FC before the half-time whistle.
In the second half, both teams continued to attack each other, but neither managed to connect well in their final touches.
Dreamvilla FC changed the pace of the match and applied pressure on the leading team, Royal Junior Stars FC. They got an opportunity to equalise, but a shot from the midfielder was saved by the goalkeeper of Royal Junior Stars.

The match ended with Royal Junior Stars winning 1-0 against Dreamvilla FC.
The coach of Royal Junior Stars, Tshepo Thulo, said he was very proud of his players because they put into practice what they were taught during training sessions.
“They were eager to win the match, and what made me happy is that they were united throughout the match.”
Keletso Khaile, the coach of Dreamvilla FC, said he was impressed with his team even though they lost the final match.
“They lost in the final match, but they played much better than in their previous encounters in the tournament. I’m very proud of them,” said Khaile.
The deputy chairperson of KLFA, Thulisile Linda, said they hosted the tournament to celebrate female soccer players.
“There were a lot of female soccer teams here in Katlehong, and throughout the years they have been slowly declining. With the tournament, we want to revive them,” said Linda.
Thobile Wilima, the secretary of KLFA, said they are planning to host the tournament on an annual basis.
“We are anticipating hosting such tournaments every year on Women’s Day,” Wilima shared.
