The City of Ekurhuleni has praised its waste management eco-warriors, highlighting the women leading the charge in service delivery and sustainability this Women’s Month.
Waste management workers are the unsung heroes of Ekurhuleni, keeping communities clean and green while breaking barriers in service delivery.
The city commended its waste management teams for their role in ensuring service delivery across the municipality, with particular focus on women in the sector during Women’s Month.

According to CoE, the department provides waste collection services to more than 723 000 formal service points and 176 000 informal service points.
The teams are responsible for refuse collection, recycling and landfill management.
The city noted that the work is physically demanding and often carried out under difficult conditions, including extreme weather and heavy workloads. Despite this, waste management staff continue to provide essential services to residents.
Women working in the department were specifically recognised for their contribution.
They serve in various capacities, including machinery operation, depot management and community outreach.
City officials said that the participation of women in the sector is significant, as it promotes inclusion, mentorship and innovation in waste management.
