EMPD seizes illegal drugs worth over R10k, 16 arrested in Ekurhuleni
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested 16 suspects in a major drug enforcement operation, confiscating illegal substances with an estimated street value of over R10 000.
Between August 19 and 20, the EMPD conducted a targeted drug enforcement operation, resulting in 16 arrests in the City of Ekurhuleni.
The operation involved the EMPD Drug Enforcement (DEU) and K9 Unit officers, following information regarding individuals selling illegal substances in the community.

Officers arrested 12 suspects, including one woman, for possession of:
• 17 ziplock bags of Cat
•14 ziplock bags of crystal meth
• Seven Mandrax tablets
• 67 ziplock bags of cannabis (dagga)
• One black plastic container full of cannabis (dagga)
The total street value of the drugs is estimated at R8 000. In addition, four men were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002), as they could not provide any form of identification when requested.
All 16 suspects were taken to their respective police stations and face charges of possession of illegal substances and illegal immigration. They are expected to appear in court in the coming days.
