EMPD removes over 5 000 illegal electricity connections in Elandsfontein raid

The EMPD conducted a major operation in Elandsfontein, removing more than 5 000 illegal electricity and cable connections.

The EMPD, with Public Order Policing, the First Response Unit, Bedfordview police, Crime Prevention Wardens, the Energy Revenue Enhancement Team, and Immigration Officers, conducted an operation on August 19 targeting illegal electricity and cable connections in the Elandsfontein area.

The operation focused on unauthorised connections around the Emabondeni informal settlement. Two men were caught tampering with essential infrastructure and were immediately arrested.

Over 5 000 illegal connections were removed. Additionally, seven illegal immigrants were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act.

All suspects were detained at Bedfordview Police Station and face charges of tampering with essential infrastructure and immigration violations. They are expected to appear in court soon.
