Ekurhuleni reassures residents as city services remain stable despite strike
The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that municipal services, including emergency response and policing, remain uninterrupted following a strike notice from the Municipal Employees and Civil Servants Union.
The City of Ekurhuleni has reassured residents that all municipal services remain stable and uninterrupted despite industrial action by the Municipal Employees and Civil Servants Union (MECSU).
The union notified the city of its intention to strike, demanding the conversion of certain employees from fixed-term contracts to permanent positions.
According to a statement by the City, essential services such as emergency response, healthcare provision and policing have not been affected by the strike.

The municipality confirmed it would enforce a no-work, no-pay policy for employees who participate in the strike.
It further reminded staff to adhere to the city’s Code of Conduct, warning that any disruptive behaviour, violence, intimidation or misconduct during the industrial action would be dealt with accordingly.
The city expressed concern over attempts to mobilise non-employees, including cleaners and security guards contracted by the municipality, to join the protests.

“We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that services to our ratepayers remain uninterrupted,” said the City of Ekurhuleni.
