Gauteng SAPS honours four fallen officers for their bravery and service
The South African Police Service in Gauteng has paid tribute to four officers who died in the line of duty, saluting their courage, dedication and service to protecting their communities.
The SAPS in Gauteng, led by provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has honoured four police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the 2025/26 financial year.
The fallen officers – three men and one woman – were remembered for their unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the people of Gauteng.
Mthombeni posthumously thanked the officers for their loyalty, bravery and dedication to the country, while extending heartfelt gratitude to their families.

“On behalf of Gauteng police management, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to you, their loved ones. Your selfless support and unwavering strength inspired them throughout their careers in law enforcement.
“We are thankful for the time we had with them, and we are honoured that you are here with us today as we salute them for the last time,” he said.
The officers remembered were:
• Captain Wynand du Toit (Springs Police Station) – shot and killed while intercepting suspects during a business robbery in Springs on February 16
• Sergeant Winnie Ntila – fatally shot by suspects during a house robbery in Vosloorus on September 3, 2024
• Warrant Officer Sello Joel Masedi – struck by a vehicle while attending an accident scene in Mohlakeng
• Warrant Officer Mzukisi November – killed by a speeding vehicle while conducting a roadblock in Springs
Mthombeni assured the families that SAPS would continue to support the children of the fallen heroes through the SAPS Education Trust, which covers their educational needs.
