Johannesburg residents warned of flooding amid ongoing heavy rainfall
Emergency teams across Johannesburg are on standby as heavy rainfall continues, with the City’s EMS advising residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert and avoid crossing swollen river streams.
Heavy rain has been reported across most parts of Johannesburg, with the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) urging motorists to drive cautiously and residents to remain alert for possible flooding.
According to EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi, many roads in the metro are wet and slippery, posing an increased risk of accidents.
“Motorists are advised to extend their following distance, reduce speed, and avoid crossing flooded roads or low-lying bridges,” said Mulaudzi.
