The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that it is fully prepared to host the 2025 G20 Social Summit, with final arrangements now underway as international delegates begin to make their way to South Africa.
According to the city, preparations have reached their peak as the metro positions itself to welcome the world to one of the most significant global governance platforms.

The G20, established in 1999, has evolved from meetings of finance ministers to a leaders’ forum addressing issues spanning trade, sustainable development, global energy challenges and anti-corruption efforts.
This year’s social summit aims to elevate conversations around social development, equity and inclusion – ensuring these concerns carry the same weight as macroeconomic decisions made at the highest level.
As the home of OR Tambo International Airport, the City of Ekurhuleni has emphasised its strategic role as the gateway to the African continent.
The metro said it stands ready to offer world-class hospitality, uninterrupted essential services and robust safety assurance through its law-enforcement agencies and disaster and emergency management services.
“The city and its residents are prepared to welcome global delegates and showcase our rich socio-economic offerings through our tourism sector and high-quality municipal services,” a statement issued on behalf of the city read.
The Birchwood precinct is already bustling with activity as final touches are put in place for the arrival of government representatives, civil society organisations, labour structures, youth groups, women’s organisations, persons with disabilities, philanthropies and grassroots stakeholders.
