Reach For A Dream gives Germiston teen a unforgettable helicopter ride and dream gift
Reach For A Dream fulfilled 17-year-old Magdeline Maraba’s dream with a helicopter ride and her long-awaited cellphone, offering hope and joy as she battles osteosarcoma and inspiring support for the NPO’s annual Dream Raffle.
Reach For A Dream, one of SA’s most cherished and impactful NPOs, again made a young dreamer’s day special. Dreamer, 17-year-old Magdeline Maraba from Germiston, is battling osteosarcoma (a cancer that begins in the cells that form bones) while dealing with the loss of her father, yet her spirit remains unbroken.
With aspirations of becoming a surgeon, Magdeline is driven by passion, kindness and an unmistakable charisma.
Reach For A Dream recently made her dream experience possible when they offered her a much-needed joyous moment.

Magdeline longed for a new cellphone, a simple yet meaningful gift that would keep her connected to her loved ones.
On her dream day, she visited the Brakpan Airfield, where a pilot surprised her with her first helicopter ride. Soaring above the landscape, Magdeline was excited, and for a moment, the weight of her illness lifted into the clouds.
The surprises didn’t end there. At the airfield’s lobby, surrounded by family, Magdeline also received a gift: Her dream phone.
It was an emotional moment for all. She was filled with gratitude, joy and memories of her father, whose humour and love continue to live on in her heart.

Stories like Magdeline’s are why the Dream Raffle remains an important annual campaign. Marking its 30th year, the annual Dream Raffle remains a beacon of hope, offering exciting prizes while raising essential funds to bring dreams to life.
This year, the initiative aims to fulfil the dreams of 200 children, reminding South Africans that even in the most challenging circumstances, hope can still take flight.
The mission of the NPO is to uplift and inspire children facing life-threatening illnesses. For more than 37 years, it has helped young dreamers find moments of joy and hope by fulfilling six dreams daily, a testament to the power of compassion and community support.
