Germiston SPCA appeals for help as injured Pekingese Duke recovers

Concerned community member rescues severely injured dog after an attack by another dog and rushes him to the Germiston SPCA.

The Germiston Bedfordview SPCA was delighted to share the story of Duke, a male Pekingese who was rescued by the SPCA after being found in a critical condition on December 20 by a concerned member of the community.

Duke was discovered severely injured, having been attacked by another dog on a property in the Gerdview area.

Thanks to the swift action of the rescuer who brought him to the SPCA, he was immediately taken to a veterinarian for emergency treatment.

During surgery, one of his eyes had to be removed to save his life, and his leg injuries were treated.

Today, Duke is safe, comfortable, and receiving dedicated care at the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA.

No owner has come forward to claim him, and he has proven to be a strong and resilient little soul who refused to give up.

Christine Kuch, chairperson of the Germiston Bedfordview SPCA, said, “Duke was brought to us after being attacked and seriously injured.

“He had no collar, disc, or microchip to help us reunite him with his owners. It is the season of goodwill, and we are so grateful this story may have a happy ending for Duke.”

The SPCA thanks the community for standing with them in giving animals like Duke a second chance at life.
