The City of Ekurhuleni, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, recently hosted the White Cane Rally in Reiger Park.

The event kicked off with an awareness walk, followed by the distribution of 200 modern white canes at the Reiger Park Library.

The White Cane Rally is an annual event that highlights the white cane as a powerful symbol of independence and mobility for people who are blind or visually impaired.

It also underscores the importance of pedestrian safety and respect for the rights of people with visual disabilities.

“White Cane Safety Day provides a valuable platform to educate the community about the challenges faced by visually impaired people and to promote greater inclusion and accessibility,” said city spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

“Ekurhuleni libraries continue to champion these values by offering braille studios and audiobooks, ensuring accessibility and support for all members of the community,” said Dlamini.
