Fatal taxi crash claims two lives in Germiston
A man and a woman were declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
A fully loaded Toyota Quantum crashed into a perimeter wall at the intersection of the M2 eastbound and Refinery Road in Germiston, leaving two people dead and 13 passengers injured.
The crash was reported at 06:15 this morning, and rescue teams from the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded swiftly to the scene to provide assistance.

DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said that upon arrival, and following an assessment and triage, the driver and his female passenger were declared dead on the scene by paramedics due to injuries sustained.

“Five passengers are in critical condition, five others are in a serious but stable condition, and three sustained minor injuries. All were treated on the scene before being transported to the nearest medical facilities,” he said.

He added that rescue teams had to use specialised hydraulic equipment to access and extricate the entrapped driver.
“The intersection was partially closed, with two lanes temporarily shut down to allow for scene clearance,” said Ntladi.

Police were on the scene, and the necessary investigations are under way.
The deceased were transported to a facility in Germiston.
