SASSA confirms 2026/ 27 grant payment dates and increases

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the new payment schedule and grant increases, giving beneficiaries clarity on when to expect payments.

SASSA has released the official payment schedule for social grants for the next financial year, providing beneficiaries with clarity on when to expect their monthly payments.

According to the South African Government News Agency, the schedule was approved by the National Treasury on March 20.

For April, older persons will be paid on April 2, followed by disability grant beneficiaries on April 7 and children’s grant recipients on April 8.

In May, older persons will receive their grants on May 5, disability grants on May 6, and children’s grants on May 7.

SASSA said in a media statement that the payment system is designed to ensure grants are paid as early as possible each month, typically staggered over three days.

“The general principle for determining the grant payment dates is to ensure they are paid as early in the month as possible,” the statement read.

It further stated that several factors are considered to ensure the smooth running of the system. These include avoiding payments immediately after public holidays, not scheduling payments on the first day of the month or on a Monday, and ensuring dates do not fall over weekends.

If a payment date falls on a weekend or public holiday, funds will be made available on the next working day.

Meanwhile, social grant beneficiaries will also see increases from April, as announced by the Minister of Finance during the recent Budget Speech.

The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant will increase by R80 to R2 400, while the War Veterans Grant will rise to R2 420.

Beneficiaries who do not receive their payments on the scheduled dates are encouraged to visit their nearest SASSA office for assistance.
