Simmer and Jack landfill in Germiston set to reopen after illegal mining disruption
The City of Ekurhuleni says inspections are underway as the Simmer and Jack landfill prepares to reopen, with law enforcement monitoring in place.
The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that the Simmer and Jack landfill site in Germiston is set to resume operations following a recent closure linked to illegal mining activity.
According to a municipal statement, officials from the Waste Management Business Unit are conducting on-site inspections to ensure the facility is safe and ready to reopen.
The landfill was temporarily shut down after illegal mining in the area disrupted operations and raised safety concerns.

Operations are expected to resume on Wednesday, April 22.
