Four SASSA officials dismissed over R33m social grants fraud
The officials were dismissed after an internal investigation uncovered their involvement in a social grants fraud scheme, reinforcing the agency's zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed four officials after they were found guilty of involvement in a R33m social grants fraud scheme.
According to the agency, an internal investigation revealed that the officials manipulated the social grants system while working with external syndicates.
Disciplinary proceedings were instituted against the officials, resulting in their dismissal.

Although they appealed the sanction, the Appeals Committee upheld the decision, citing the seriousness of the misconduct and the need to safeguard public funds.
SASSA said it maintains a zero-tolerance approach to fraud and corruption and remains committed to protecting the integrity of the social grants system to ensure funds reach their rightful beneficiaries.
“Fraudulent activities undermine the trust placed in SASSA and deprive vulnerable communities of much-needed support. We will continue to act decisively against any employee found guilty of misconduct,” said regional executive manager Mmapula Pheeha.
The agency said it is strengthening measures to prevent similar incidents through enhanced monitoring, stricter internal controls and ongoing ethics training for staff.
