Germiston SPCA dogs to benefit from running chain project

"Their support is helping turn short chains into longer walks, more movement and better lives for our four-legged friends," said Bredenkamp.

Silvasons Hardware and Building Supplies donated materials needed to install running chains for dogs to the Bedfordview/Germiston SPCA.

Every dog deserves the opportunity to move freely, exercise and enjoy a better quality of life. For dogs that are otherwise confined to short, static chains, a running chain can make a significant difference, particularly where properties are unfenced or other challenges make it difficult to keep dogs safely contained.

“A running chain consists of a strong cable securely stretched between two fixed points, with an O-ring allowing a lightweight chain attached to the dog’s collar to move freely along the cable. This setup gives dogs greater space to walk, run and exercise without becoming tangled, while still keeping them safely within the property,” said Admin and Support Manager Roxanne Bredenkamp.

“For a dog that has spent much of its life restricted to a short chain, having the freedom to move over a larger area can make a world of difference.

“Thanks to the generosity of Silvasons Hardware and Building Supplies, we can help improve the lives of dogs in our community, one dog at a time,” she said.

“Their support is helping turn short chains into longer walks, more movement and better lives for our four-legged friends,” said Bredenkamp.
