Grundfos South Africa opened its doors to students from Ekurhuleni West TVET College as part of an initiative aimed at giving students a firsthand look into the world of work and the career opportunities available within industry.

The company hosted 50 students from the college on September 18 for a Career Exposure Day, designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical workplace experience.

The programme gave students an opportunity to engage with Grundfos employees, learn about different career paths and gain a better understanding of how their studies can translate into opportunities in the professional environment.

One of the key sessions focused on “Life After Graduation: Transitioning from Student to Professional”, where Grundfos employees shared their personal experiences, career journeys and advice on preparing for the transition from student life into the workplace.

Students also participated in industry exposure sessions covering a range of fields, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, transport and logistics, and mechatronics.

“The practical component of the day allowed students to go beyond theory as they toured Grundfos’s warehouse, receiving and dispatch operations and production environment,” said Faith from Grundfos.

Through these tours and interactive sessions, students were able to see how different departments work together and how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom is applied in a real-world environment.

The Grundfos team said for the students, the exposure provided an opportunity to ask questions, interact with professionals and gain insight into the skills, expectations and working environments associated with different careers.

Grundfos said initiatives such as the Career Exposure Day form part of its commitment to investing in young people and strengthening the relationship between education and industry.

The company believes that providing students with meaningful exposure to the workplace can help inspire the next generation of professionals while giving them a clearer understanding of the opportunities available after graduation.

The day also highlighted the important role that businesses can play in supporting students as they prepare for the world of work.
