Top achievers shine as Hoërskool Vryburger posts 92.3% pass rate for 2025 matric class

Hoërskool Vryburger High School has announced a 92.3% pass rate for its Class of 2025 matriculants.

The school also recorded 26 distinctions, with a 100% pass rate in tourism, consumer studies and life orientation.

Jennifer Timche celebrates her achievements with three distinctions in life orientation, English home language and Afrikaans first additional language. A top performer since Grade Eight and an athletics participant, she now aims to pursue a career in the nuclear field.

School leadership credited the late principal Stephanie Diedericks’ Study Buddy Programme for helping learners achieve the desired results, adding that she will be dearly missed.

Puleng Mafoka, plans to take a gap year to improve his mathematics and physical sciences results before pursuing a career in medicine.

Of the 143 matriculants who sat for their final examinations, Head Girl Blen Abebe topped the list with four distinctions. She advised the Class of 2026 to prioritise self-care to cope with the pressures of matric.

Kgalalelo Makau, who achieved a distinction in business studies, aspires to pursue a career in nursing or veterinary nursing.

Abebe described the year as less hectic than anticipated, noting that unity among learners was key to their success. She also said that her role as head girl gave her insight into different cultures and backgrounds.

Onthatile Khotha aims to pursue a qualification in health sciences.

Paying tribute to the late principal, Abebe said: “She will be dearly missed, and as her first class of matriculants, we saw the work that she put in. Our condolences go out to the family at large.”
