I don’t know what to do – the Alberton Licensing Department is of no help to me!
I’ve applied to have my licence renewed last July, as my licence was to expire this year, January 13. I still have not received my renewed licence or heard any news. I know there are other applicants in this same dilemma. We feel so helpless.
The worst part is that there are people who applied to have their licences renewed in October – months after I did – and they got their renewed licence before me. I don’t understand how it’s possible.
I tried to find out what the problem is, and the licensing department told me that they’re experiencing a problem at their Pretoria department(s), where I assume these licences are issued from. But how did the October applicants get their licences before the July applicants, then?

THE RECORD approached the EMM for comment. A few days later, this was received:
“The Driver’s License Card Authority (DLCA) is the company that prints the driving license cards; this function actually does not reside with the municipality. Applications are processed at station level and submitted to the DLCA for printing and issuing thereof.
“There was a strike by workers of the DLCA that affected all municipalities. It was a labour dispute outside of our jurisdiction, as the company is a stand-alone authority. The backlog on printing and delivery of licence cards is still ongoing.
“As a City, we process applications and submit to DLCA for production and processing. When batches of cards are delivered we file them accordingly for collection.”
