Covid-19: Ward 36 councillor urges community to follow lockdown rules

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan encourages residents to vasbyt and follow the rules and regulations of lockdown.

Wendy Morgan, Ward 36 councillor, writes:

As we head into the second part of the lockdown, I get the feeling that a lot of residents are starting to get cabin fever.

It is at this time that we really need to vasbyt and follow all the rules and regulations that are in place.

There are a large number of struggling families in the area who have no or little income during this period and the metro’s Department of Social Development has set up a system in which these needy families can request food parcels.

However, there is a huge backlog with this process.

I have started my own database and will submit the names to the department at regular intervals.

I, therefore, request that if there are families out there who are in need of assistance to send me one family member’s first name, surname, ID number, physical address, cellphone number and reason for the request.

Please remember there is an estimated turnaround time of seven days.

I can be reached on my cellphone on 072 963 9675.

I know Clr Graham Gersbach is doing the same for Ward 92, he can be reached on 060 584 5497.

May I request that if you have requested a food parcel from one of us, do not go to the other councillor as well.

We can do this, be strong, be safe, consider others and wash your hands.
