CGA wants ASA board out
Athletics SA has been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately.
A lot has been said about athletics in South Africa in recent months.
The sport has dominated headlines throughout the country for all the wrong reasons and officials in the sport have been having a go at each other for the past few months.
Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) recently had a special council meeting at their headquarters, at the Germiston Stadium.
The meeting was attended by 75 per cent of the provincial affiliates, which are clubs.
The council unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in the entire board of Athletics South Africa (ASA) and CGA called for a special general meeting in terms of clause 12.2 of the ASA constitution.
The clause states that the board or council may, at any time, of its own accord, or shall, upon receipt, in writing, of a request from at least one third of the provincial members, call a general meeting, which shall be known as a special general meeting, to consider matters beyond the authority of the council.
The CGA also want the ASA board to be removed from office at the meeting and for an interim board to be elected.
While all this is happening, athletes around the country seem to be struggling.
Sascoc recently suspended ASA and anybody tied with the organisation.
This means that athletes do not receive funding from Sascoc.
