Top class soccer in Germiston

Women's football took centre stage in Germiston recently.

Top class women’s football was on show at the weekend, at the Delville Sports Grounds.

The Gauteng Women’s Football tournament saw teams from all over the province show off their skills.

Each region was represented in the second year of the tournament, which aims to develop women’s football.

Ekurhuleni’s u-13 side were the best performing local team.

They made it to the final of their tournament, only to lose to Tshwane in the end.

Ekurhuleni finished second.

Tshwane also won the u-19 tournament, proving to be powerful amongst the juniors.

They beat West Rand in the final.

West Rand won the senior tournament, beating Johannesburg in the final before breaking out in song and dance.

The tournament was held over two days and saw top personalities showing up to support the teams.

Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk was one of the supporters at the event, and Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi was amongst the spectators on Sunday.

Gauteng MEC of Sport Lebogang Maile was also seen at the tournament.
