The Germiston Simmer Rugby Club hosted their fund-raiser lunch on Saturday.
The event was held at the Tryline Restaurant and Sport Bar, at the Germiston Stadium and funds raised are to be used to buy better equipment for the new season.
The club was selling tickets for the test match between the All Blacks and the Springboks, in various packages, ranging from a meal and drinks at the club with entertainment, a biltong pack and a bus trip to Ellis Park and back.
All tickets were sold, which was an indication of the successful turnout.
“We are very happy with today’s turnout; if we could have, we would have bought more tickets,” said club chairman Rene Audier.
The lunch commenced at 11am and everybody who attended was transported, by bus, to Ellis Park to watch the game.
The club will begin with their pre-season training on October 15, and this will run until the end of November, in preparation for up-coming tournaments, as well as the new season.
The age groups are from u-19 to seniors and the six-week training programme will run every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Everybody is welcome.
Germiston Simmer welcome funding and will gladly accept and appreciate any form of aid.
“We thrive on funding and, any sponsorship we can get, we appreciate,” said Rudy van der Westhuizen, vice-chairman of the club.
