Great plans for the year ahead

Looking for tennis fanatics.

The Ekurhuleni Tennis School of Excellence has started training at the Germiston Stadium, and children who want to play are most welcome.

During practise, new and young, upcoming players will be introduced to a “tournament preparation training programme”.

A new concept of “Play and Stay” was introduced during the last term of 2013, and will be re-enforced this year.

This is a programme where youngsters, six to 10 years of age, play on smaller courts, as one tennis court is divided into six smaller parts.

They are also taught how to score from the very first lesson and use smaller racquets and softer balls.

This helps children to enjoy the game and to develop faster. Most important, it helps them play and stay as tennis players, hence the name “Play and Stay”.

In other news, a senior men’s doubles tournament will be held at the Germiston Stadium on February 23, from 9am to 3pm.

Trophies will be given to winners and runners-up.

Anybody interested in participating, or in joining the club, can contact Loyiso Matsha on 071 381 6226, during office hours.

The club’s practice times are:

  • Thursdays: 4pm till 5.30pm.
  • Saturdays: from 10am till noon.
  • Sundays: from 3.30pm till 5pm.
