The Germiston Stadium hosted Central Gauteng Athletics’ (CGA) second meeting, on January 18.
This was a track and field sub-youth league meeting, with athletes from clubs across the country participating and showing off their various athletics talents.
At these meetings, athletes compete in order to accumulate points, to qualify for the Central Gauteng Youth and Senior Championships.
The day started with a 3 000m walk at the stadium, getting the athletes warmed up and ready to compete.
Germiston Callies athlete Jade Thiele won the 100m women’s sprint.
“I am very proud of her, she did really well and we are hoping for a good season this year,” said Germiston Callies’ coach Stephané Kotze.
The Scaw Harriers’ athletes also made an appearance and one of their members, Thabo Motaung, came out first in the 3 000m steeplechase.
“The race was okay; I trained well for it, so it wasn’t difficult for me and mostly I enjoyed it,” said Motaung.
Athletes were accompanied by their friends and families, who showed immense support for all the participants who took part on the day.
The CGA has another meeting scheduled at the Germiston Stadium, on Saturday.
