Luso leads the way

Smooth start to the season.

Luso Africa Football Club played their first match of the ELFA Super League, against Highlands Park, on March 22.

Both teams had their first team and reserves sides battling it out on the field.

The Highlands teams showed determination and looked well-trained for the games, but Luso Africa came on stronger than Highlands might have anticipated.

The reserve sides’ encounter was a fairly good game, but with not much of an adrenalin-rush for spectators.

Luso Africa’s reserves dominated the game, having ball possession throughout.

Although the Highlands reserve side scored one goal, Luso kept calm and managed to keep the lead until the last minute of the match, which saw the score at 3-1.

The second game of the day belonged to the first teams, and both sides revealed why they are the top teams in their clubs.

Luso Africa’s first team seemed to analyse Highlands Park’s kind of play during the first few minutes of the game, then began to launch their appropriate skills onto the pitch.

Luso gained ball possession rapidly and increased their number of shots at goal.

As Highlands were easing into the game, Luso served them with a welcome goal, which gave them a wake-up call.

Highlands then picked up their game play and initiated a defence strategy, but that was not enough to stop Luso from widening their lead with a second goal.

Two goals in the first half could rattle any team, but Highlands seemed to maintain their cool as they played and their morale still seemed to be high.
Highlands defended through to half-time.

In the second half, Highlands focused on Luso’s kind of play, which was unfortunate, because at this stage they were playing to Luso’s tune.

Luso specialised in long shots, which were completely different to Highlands’ immediate shots, and this is why Highlands seemed more drained — they had to keep up with Luso’s style of play.

It was not long before Luso landed another goal.

Although Highlands scored their first penalty goal, Luso secure the lead with another and last goal of the match.

Highlands Park are a good team. They continued to play as a team and gave Luso a tough match to win.

Both teams put their best feet forward, but at the end of the day the best men had to win.
