The Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships took place on April 12, at the Germiston Stadium.
Athletes from across Gauteng came out in numbers to support and participate in the championships.
Among the many athletes, Germiston Callies’ Rudi Jordan competed in the championships and produced impressive results.
Jordan finished his 100m sprint in 11.29 seconds, the 200m in 23.40 seconds and reached 6.06m in the long jump.
He received first place in all three races.
Jordan’s outstanding results didn’t end at the Gauteng championships, as he carried his excellent performance over to the South African Masters Championships, on April 25 and 26.
“It went very well at the South African Masters Championships for me and George Hunter, who is also a Germiston Callies athlete,” said Jordan.
Jordan, competing in the men’s 30-34 years category, was first in three races again.
In the SA’s, he ran the 100m sprint in an electronic time of 11.49 seconds and the 200m sprint in 23.51 seconds, which, he said, were both his personal best times.
His other first place was achieved when he reached 5.78m in the long jump.
“I just want to thank my sponsors, Henk van Aswegen, Susan van Aswegen and Mike’s Kitchen Lambton, they really help me a lot,” said Jordan.
Hunter, competing in the men’s 40-44 years category, also recorded two personal best times.
He finished first in the 100m sprint, in an electronic time of 11.68 seconds, and also made podium in second position in the 200m sprint, in 24.18 seconds.
