Boxing fanatics witnessed first class boxing at the Hot Shots Box and Dine event, at Emperors Palace, on July 15.
Two Germiston boxers also took part in the tournament.
The first bout, a bantamweight match, was cancelled due to medical reasons.
This then made the second bout, contested by featherweights Katlehong’s Ayanda Nkosi and KZN’s Ricardo Hiraman, the first bout of the night, by default.
Both boxers were energetic and headed straight for jabbing, leaving no room for analysis.
As they went further into the first round, Nkosi started to show dominance, with more accurate and firmer blows which left Hiraman resorting to nothing but blocking his opponent’s punches.
More action was witnessed in the second round, as Hiraman came back stronger and more determined, with retaliation punches.
This didn’t rattle Nkosi, as he knew where and when to strike and continued to corner the defenceless and bleeding Hiraman.
Both fighters were frustrated in the fourth and final round, as neither was willing to back down, which was cause for more aggressive blows.
The four-round bout ended in a unanimous decision of 36-40, 37-39 and 36-40 points, in favour of Nkosi.
The junior welterweight bout, which was contested by Primrose’s Grant Fourie and KZN’s Thulani Mbatha, was one of the shortest bouts of the night.
Though both fighters seemed to analyse each other in the beginning, Fourie landed more punches.
What ended this match was one powerful accurate jab by Fourie, which saw Mbatha down on his knees, unable to recover and ultimately being escorted to his corner.
This resulted in Fourie winning the bout through a technical knockout (TKO), two minutes and seven seconds into the first round.
