Fast paced track and field action at Hoërskool Goudrif

Athletes prepare for the new season.

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted the second leg of the 2014/2015 track and field season, at Hoërskool Goudrif, on Saturday.

This event allowed athletes from u-7 to senior a chance to hone their skills and also to learn some helpful tips before the 2015 athletics season.

Twenty-one-year-old Kayla Gilbert, trained by Germiston Callies coach Stephané Kotzé, was one of the senior athletes taking part in Saturday’s event.

She participated in the day’s long jump event.

Gilbert, who has previously jumped 6.22m in this discipline, is hoping to make a comeback in the new season.

She is one of Germiston’s top athletes, boasting an impressive set of accomplishments, including:

  •  South African colours for both youth and junior athletics.
  • 2012 world junior athletics champion.
  •  2011 African junior athletics champion.

Now a senior athlete, she is ranked as one of the top athletes in the province.

Gilbert’s ultimate dream is to reach the 2016 Olympic Games.
