Full-contact tournament planned for May

Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Tournament coming up.

Katlehong’s Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club is scheduled to host a karate tournament in May.

“We invite all full-contact karate clubs to participate in the fifth edition of our annual tournament, which will be held on May 30, at the Thokoza Auditorium,” said tournament organiser Thulane Sibisi.

“This year’s tournament is primarily focused on full-contact karate.”

Sibisi, who is also the local club’s chief instructor, added that they are expecting guests from across South African borders to make appearances at the tournament.

“We are expecting guests from, among other places, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland; we are very excited about the tournament, by the looks of things it will be big,” he said.

Sibisi also told a GCN journalist that they are in need of sponsorships for a number of items needed for the tournament.

“We need sponsorship for prizes, energy drinks and a Tatami (ring), we are calling out to anybody who can help us with those items,” he said.

“Although we have covered other elements of the tournament’s requirements, we call out to anybody who can help us in any way; it will be highly appreciated.”

The tournament will run from 8am to 8pm, with no entrance fee for fans.

The registration fee is charged per club.
