Local team conquers

Great win for Dinwiddie United Football Club.

First-class football was witnessed when Dinwiddie United Football Club’s senior side took on Tembisa’s Pandrol FC at the Germiston City Football Club on Saturday.

The fixture was an ELFA league affair.

This was a one-sided fixture with United dominating and showing more confidence and skill throughout the game.

The game was neutralised in the beginning of the first half but this was soon changed by Brian Mangena’s two goals which put United in the lead.

Before Pandrol could change to full-on defense formation, Maqhawe Khumalo put in another goal, securing the local team’s lead.

It was clear that United’s opponents were rattled by the three goals and this was evident in the way they kept losing the ball and throwing to open spaces.

United’s Tony Makani scored a fine bending goal which had Pandrol’s goalkeeper fly in the opposite direction.

Villa Mbatha’s goal was United’s last goal which saw the local team walk away with a 5-0 win.

“I am very happy with the win and the way the boys played, it was a brilliant game,” said the local team’s coach, Percy Matlatse.

“We are currently number two on the league log and we are pushing for first position.

“We love football and train hard, it is an absolute pleasure when the hard work is rewarded.

“I thank Babore, the local business which has sponsored us with, among other things, the kit we were playing in, money to register in the league and transportation fees.”

Among the supporters was Nurse Maake, director at Babore.

“We are happy with the way the club is performing, and we are willing to help where we can,” she said.

In other news, the team also won the Adelaide Tambo Football Tournament which was held on June 27 at the Dinwiddie Sports Club.
