Intense training for everyone
CrossFit Germiston box hosted their annual August Throwdown.
CrossFit Germiston hosted their annual August throwdown last Saturday, at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston.
It was yet another exciting presentation of strength and fitness.
There were three WODs (workout of the day).
The main WOD, named “Labour Day”, created by coach Jacquard-Ann McCutcheon, consisted of sandbag carrying, tyre flips and slams, and personal favourite burpees.
“Our main aim was to involve the students, as CrossFit Germiston and Afrikaanse Hoërskool are working hand-in-hand to improve the students’ health and fitness,” said McCutcheon.
“CrossFit is a core and conditioning programme.
“We have designed our programme to stimulate as broad an adaptation response as possible.”
McCutcheon also said CrossFit is not a specialised programme but a deliberate attempt to improve physical competence in each of 10 fitness domains.
“The fitness domains include cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, balance and accuracy,” she said.
“The CrossFit programme was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks.
“Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple and diverse physical challenges.”
People joined, while others watched the CrossFit Germiston members demonstrating the different WODs.
“Increased power, strength, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, flexibility, stamina and coordination are each important to the world’s best athletes and to our grandparents,” explained McCutcheon.
“Through thorough coaching, CrossFit has been able to teach anyone who can care for themselves to perform safely and with maximum efficiency the same movements typically utilised by professional coaches in elite and certainly exclusive environments.
“When starting off at CrossFit Germiston, we begin with the onramp programme, which introduces athletes to our fundamental movements and develops their movement technique, to ensure their safety and success at the next level.
“Fitness is only achieved by learning to move your body correctly, consistently and with intensity.”
