Germiston Callies athletes shine at CGA event

Central Gauteng Athletic’s hosted a successful athletics meeting at the Germiston Stadium, on February 27.

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted the last track and field league meeting at the Germiston Stadium, on February 27.

The event offered athletes a chance to prepare for the SA Championships.

“It was a great day, filled with athletes challenging themselves and working towards the SA Championships set to take place in April,” said CGA’s Mbalenhle Ngema.

A number of the Germiston Callies Harriers athletes shone at the meeting, claiming several podium spots.

Their results were:

  •  Mpho Tladi finished first in a time of 14.2 seconds in the boys’ u-19 110m hurdles and second in the boys’ u-19 100m sprint, in a time of 10.9 seconds.
  •  Taylor Underhay placed first in the girls’ u-19 400m race, in a time of 58.4 seconds.
  • Angelique Bosch placed third in the junior women’s 200m sprint, finishing in 28.2 seconds.
  •  Julia Lutz was first in the girls’ u-17 100m sprint, in a time of 12.1 seconds, and second in the girls’ u-17 200m sprint, in a time of 26.4 seconds.
  •  Dave Mukandi placed third on the podium in the boys’ u-17 100m sprint, finishing the race in 11 seconds.
  •  Deborah Obeng finished the girls’ u-17 100m sprint in 12.4 seconds, placing second on the podium.

The CGA team was pleased with the progress made by many of the participating athletes.
